For those of you who know Team Addo, it will come as no surprise that our perfect tipple includes a dash of gin! Not only is it one of our favourite drinks, but it can also inspire an entire party theme—just imagine a chic gin bar adding that extra touch of fun. But let’s be honest, it’s not just gin that makes the perfect tipple. The options are endless!
When hosting an event, the drinks reception is often the first time your guests are handed a glass, and we always say: make that first drink count! Whether it’s a classic cocktail, a refreshing mocktail, or the ever-iconic glass of bubbles, it’s all about presentation and style. So here are our top five must-have tipples that are sure to elevate your welcome drinks tray:
Number One: The Iconic Glass of Bubbles
Whether it’s Champagne or Prosecco, you can’t beat the original party drink. Served in a tall flute or an elegant saucer, sparkling wine is synonymous with celebration. It's never boring! The key is how you present it. Choose stunning glassware and eye-catching trays, or go all out with a tower display at the bar. It’s a classic for a reason, and even has its own emoji!
Number Two: A Cold Bottle of Lager
Don’t forget the lager lovers! While many enjoy bubbles, some guests—especially the gents—may prefer a cold, refreshing beer to kick off the festivities. These can be served on trays or through self-service stations, displayed in ice baths, wheelbarrows, or Champagne buckets. However you choose to present them, they’ll always be a hit.
Number Three: A Fancy Mocktail
Mocktails are a must for non-drinkers, and they don’t have to feel any less special. A crowd-pleaser is the Elderflower Fizz, served in a flute with a sprig of mint and a raspberry to distinguish it from the Champagne. Our current favourite is the English Garden—an irresistible mix of fresh mint, apple juice, ginger, elderflower, and sparkling water. It’s a refreshing summer cooler that’s just as stylish and delicious as its alcoholic counterparts.
Number Four: The Cocktail
We’re all about keeping it simple but fabulous. Why not turn that English Garden mocktail into a cocktail? Add gin or vodka and swap sparkling water for tonic, and voilà—you’ve got a refreshing cocktail that’s sure to impress. A few strawberries or a colourful straw can help tell the difference between the alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions, but we love using the same elegant glassware for consistency. Don’t forget a garnish of edible flowers for that final flourish!
Number Five: The Gin Fizz
An Addo staple—the Gin Fizz. It’s simple, popular, and always a hit. With gin, fizz, a dash of elderflower, a raspberry, and a sprinkling of edible flowers, this drink is both refreshing and beautiful. It’s perfect for those who find Champagne too sharp but still want something sparkling. We often personalise this cocktail for our hosts, adding a bespoke touch that’s unique to the event.
Our Top Tip: Presentation is Everything
There you have it—our top five drinks for any drinks reception. To keep things balanced, we suggest offering additional drinks only at the bar after the reception, allowing you to manage alcohol consumption, capture beautiful photos, and guide your guests through a seamless event experience.
Remember, the drinks you serve can make or break the party, so ensure they taste amazing, complement your event’s style, and are presented with flair. It’s the little details that leave a lasting impression and create memories for years to come.
